The East Coast space launch center of the US Department of Defense is Cape Canaveral Air Force Station. It is located in Cape Canaveral in Brevard County, Florida. It depends on Patrick Air Force Base which is home to the 45th Space Wing. CCAFS is located adjacent to John F. Kennedy Space Center. A new liner system was needed for the Fuel Truck Pad. Concrete was cracking severely and fuel seepage into ground water were potential concerns.
To remove contaminants, the concrete was washed with hot aqueous BioSolve(r), using SSPC-SP 1, LP WC and SSPC-SP 1. The concrete was prepared with a profile CSP 4-5. This would allow for excellent bonding to the liner system. For adhesion enhancement, and to reduce / eliminate outgassing in concrete areas, the entire area was primed using a proprietary polyurethane primer. The 2521 polyurea system, which is a minimum of 100 mils thick (2.5 mm) was applied. To terminate the FSS 45DC system, a 1/4-inch (6.35mm) saw cut joint was used. After the area was prepared, primer was applied and the FSS45DC system was applied over the next few days. To aid in slip resistance, a finish stipple texture has been applied.
