Formulators Must Apply Polyurea Coatings Directly. When applying polyurea coating, formulators must apply the coating directly to the base material, without mixing or spraying the coating into the material. This allows the sealant to fully cure and adhere to the surface of the vehicle, reducing contamination and speed up the drying process. Along with this, formulators should avoid applying the coating directly to any hot surface (i.e. radiator, fan blade, etc. ).

High Pressure Spray Application Is Important. A polyurea coating applied to an extremely cold or extremely hot vehicle surface can sometimes fail to bond and form a lasting bond. In order to ensure a proper application, formulators must carefully apply the coating and then allow it to dry completely before moving on to the next surface. Any high pressure or high temperature application must be carefully controlled to avoid damaging the coating.

There are multiple reasons why polyurea coating is a superior product to others. However, the one reason that most polyurea coatings fail to perform as well as they should is because of poor or improper surface preparation. Formulators should always use the right equipment for the job, starting with the most reliable equipment available. Equipment such as mixing valves, isocyanate mixers, mixing tanks and blenders ensure the proper durations of the different polyurea components. This is the key to a quality coating that forms a strong bond to the surface.
